First Broccoli of the year

Posted by olemike on 12/31/2011

This is the first head of Broccoli from our winter garden. It’s steak and broccoli for dinner tonight (and maybe a glass of wine to celebrate New Years).

Winter Garden Update

Posted by olemike on 12/04/2011

There’s not much happening in my garden right now. Nothing will mature for some time yet. However, I do have my first Meyer Lemon which I picked a couple of days ago. I may have picked this just a few days early but it is still tasty. We have also started to cover our citrus with frost covers each night. It is getting down into the 30’s here now.

My raised beds are full of Onions, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Garlic and Cabbage. Now the challenge is to win the battle against cabbage worms which I think are overwintering in my garden. This is our first serious winter garden so it will be an educational experience.
