Causes of Federal Deficit

Posted by olemike on 07/30/2010

Here is an interesting article which provides one prospective of the root cause of our current and future deficit. I would be interested in hearing from you liberals out there about what you think of the facts quoted in this article. Are they accurate? Should Barack stop blaming W. for the current and future deficit? Let me know what you think.

I am personally sick of him repeating that “We inherited this mess”. Someday he needs to take ownership for the current situation. All new presidents inherit problems. What he does about it is what counts.

I want to share this Quote with you…

Posted by olemike on 07/29/2010

My feelings about immigration can best be explained with this quote from Theodore Roosevelt :
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

California’s Budget

Posted by olemike on 07/27/2010

When will the electorate wake up and realize that the Democratic party’s control of the state legislature will never allow the budget problems to be completely solved. As long as they are in the pocket of the public employee and prison guard unions, we are doomed as a state. It will take very tough choices for the state to pull out of this financial mess. Let’s help them along by electing different people to represent us.
I don’t believe either Jerry Brown or Meg Whitman can make much difference. The legislature is the problem.

We picked more cherry tomatoes this morning.  Leona is buying the ingredients to make salsa.  We won’t be able to eat them all otherwise.

Zucchini all the time

Posted by olemike on 07/20/2010

We are being inundated with zucchini from our one plant.  We have eaten it steamed, stuffed, grilled, as zucchini bread, and now as zuccnini brownies.  Leona made brownies last night using a recipe found on Allrecipes.com.  It was “Cassie’s Zucchini Brownies.  They were very good – not real sugary with only about 122 calories per serving. See  Cassies Zucchini Brownies

Cherry Tomatoes

Posted by olemike on 07/20/2010

We are starting to harvest our tomatoes.  The cherry tomato plant has hundreds of tomatoes.  We picked just these few yesterday and will be getting more every day.  Leona is getting ready to make Salsa.  We can’t possibly eat all of them.

Leona picked a few things yesterday.  We are getting lots of yellow squash, zucchini , and some peaches, and a few strawberries.  We have made about 15 loaves of zucchini  bread for the freezer, have had steamed zucchini , and stuffed zucchini .  Basically, we have had zucchini coming out of our ears.  Now, we are waiting for tomatoes.  Our cherry tomato plant is loaded but nothing ripe yet.
