Republicans – Take heed!

Posted by olemike on 10/30/2010

The article written by a Democratic congressman gives a good explanation of the mistakes the Democratic party made and is the reason they are losing the house.

The Republican party should take heed and not make the same mistakes.  They need to focus on getting things fixed and keep partisan politics to a minimum.  If not, they will lose the majority in 2012.

Earmarks

Posted by olemike on 10/28/2010

If the Republicans take control of the House, one of the first things they need to do is eliminate earmarks – at least for the next two years.  Yes, yes, I know, Many of you will say that earmarks are only a small percentage of the deficit.  However, if we cannot stop earmarks, do we really think we can tackle the extremely difficult choices that will be required to shrink the deficit?  If they continue to spend like a drunkard sailor (which they did during the Bush administration), we will see the Democrats retake Congress in 2012.  Heaven help us if that happens.

Corporate Taxes

Posted by olemike on 10/22/2010

Here is an idea that might help get the economy moving again – reduce corporate tax rates.  Liberals like to bash corporations but the fact of the matter is – we need them and we need lots of them.  Who else will hire the unemployed?  We can’t all work for Uncle Sam.

Current Political Culture

This article by Thomas Friedman pretty much sums up what I was trying to say in the previous post. We need something to stimulate problem solving. It may take a third-party movement to get it going.

Current Political Culture

Posted by olemike on 10/18/2010

This past weekend, I had family visiting for a weekend of golf. My brother-in-law is a strong liberal democrat and he and I disagree politically on virtually everything. So, we seldom talk politics. However, we danced around the subject briefly and we did agree on one thing. The current political divide between Republicans and Democrats is so strong that there is little hope that they can come together and solve our country’s big problems. There is too much “hate” between the parties. Where will it end? I don’t know.

Campaigning – Obama Style

Posted by olemike on 10/18/2010

I get extremely frustrated when I listen to President Obama describe those of us who disagree with him as “Scared” or “Stupid”. He thinks that the only reason anyone would disagree is because they just don’t understand what he is trying to do. He cannot accept the fact that we do understand. We just think his policies are flat wrong for the country. His liberal, big government ideas are not what the majority of Americans want to see implemented. It is imperative that we send him the message on November 2. We are not stupid but we are scared. We are terrified of where he is leading the country.
