Golf Vacation Day Ten

Posted by olemike on 10/23/2011

Today was the last golf day. We played the “Republic”. It was my favorite of the three we played. I didn’t score quite as well as yesterday but still played pretty well(for me). We went to Rudys for BBQ and went to the rodeo here in Bulverde. After watching some typical rodeo fare, we watched Georgia and Caroline ride the mechanical bull. They had also taken part in the the calf scramble. We topped off the night with some two-steppin to a live band that played after the rodeo ended. It was a great night.

Golf Vacation Day Nine

Posted by olemike on 10/22/2011

Today we played “The Bandit”. I played much better – improved my score by 12 strokes. It would be nice to do that again tomorrow but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. This evening we went to Travis and Laura’s for BBQed hamburgers and brats. Great food, drinks, and conversation while sitting outside by the pool. The weather in San Antonio is perfect right now. Also, Jason and Janaize took the girls to Sea World today.

Golf Vacation Day Eight

Posted by olemike on 10/21/2011

Here we are saddling up for our first round of golf. We played today at Canyon Springs Golf Course. It was unique in that no holes or fairways other than the one being played could be seen. Our scores ranged from an 89 – 113. It will be my secret on where I am on the scale. There were six of us. Me, sons Eric and Jason, brother in law Charles, nephew Travis, and his friend Brett.
Had a family dinner in the evening and made S’mores. Great fun!

Golf Vacation Day Six

Posted by olemike on 10/18/2011

We made it to San Antonio – actually Bulverde which is just north of SA. A long drive – about 9 hrs. Not much to write about. Have you ever seen West Texas? It’s mostly sage brush, sand, and cactus. We’ll be here a week before heading home. Golf starts Thursday.

Golf Vacation Day Five

Posted by olemike on 10/17/2011

Another long driving day today. We did see Texas Canyon where in the middle of sand and cactus, there is suddenly lots of big boulders. They are perfect for those gun battles in old western movies. We had dinner at Texas Steakhouse. On to San Antonio tomorrow. We start playing on Thursday.

Golf Vacation Day Three

Posted by olemike on 10/15/2011

We started our day in Santa Barbara by having breakfast at the East Beach Grill. We had excellent ham and cheese omelettes. It was right on the beach. We then took a drive along Shoreline drive, saw some beautiful coast line and then, wouldn’t you know it, we stopped at about six garage sales. Later in the day we walked State Street and met up with Kyle for dinner at the Waterfront Grill. It was very good. We definitely had some tired feet after walking all day. It has been a good visit to beautiful SB.

Golf Vacation Day Two

Posted by olemike on 10/14/2011

Here we are in Pismo Beach. The weather is just great. We are also stopping in Solvang to look around and then proceed to Santa Barbara. We had a great seafood dinner at Brophy Bros. Down by the harbor. I was picking out a boat while we were there. Tomorrow we will be checking out SB and then have dinner with grandson Kyle. He is currently living down here.

Golf Vacation Day One

Posted by olemike on 10/13/2011

Our first overnight stop was in San Luis Obispo. We attended the Thursday night farmers market in the downtown area. It was a great market – lots of tasty looking vegetables and fruit plus scads of places to eat. Cal Poly is located here and there were lots of students as well as older people in attendance. All in all – a great market. I highly recommend it. Tomorrow on to Pismo Beach, Solvang, and Santa Barbara.
