We planted our fall garden last week. Quite frankly, we were sick and tired of eating so much summer squash, so we decided to rip out the summer beds and get started with our fall garden. Prior to planting, we refurbished the beds with Nutri-Rich chicken pellets, and Gaia Green Rock Dust. Rock Dust is a product advocated by John Kohler, a gardener in Sonoma County, Ca. who may be seen in his many U-Tube videos about gardening. We had never used rock dust before so thought we would give it a try. The Nutri-Rich Chicken pellets were recommended by a master gardener at the Fair Oaks Horticulture center.
We planted Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Tree Kale, Ornamental Kale, Romaine Lettuce, Spinach, and Celery.
We planted all sets – purchased from Green Acres Nursery in Roseville, CA. With a little luck, we might have fresh broccoli for Thanksgiving dinner. Wouldn’t that be swell?

We just returned home after a week in Texas. We attended my sister’s 50th wedding anniversary party, played a little golf, and ate a lot more than we should have.
This is what we harvested from the garden when we returned. It was about 13 lbs. of primarily Patty Pan squash, plus some cucumbers, and a few little tomatoes. So far this summer, we have picked 270 Patty Pan’s and saved about $270 (at Whole Foods prices). But enough is enough! I am going to pull the Patty Pan plants this weekend and get the bed ready for winter garden produce. I’m starting with Broccoli. I purchased some sets at Green Acres Nursery yesterday. I’ll get them in the ground today. Wish me luck.
